The PPS in Belfast confirmed today that a prosecutorial decision as to whether army personnel will be prosecuted for the fatal shooting of 14 year old Annette McGavigan in Derry on the 6th September 1971 will issue next Monday 29th April 2024.
The decision as to whether army personnel will be prosecuted for the child’s killing will issue from Belfast just 2 days in advance of the cut off date for all prosecution decisions.
The family of Annette McGavigan, her sister May and brothers Martin and Kevin, together with the Pat Finucane Centre, have campaigned for over 20 years for an Article 2 compliant criminal investigation, a referral to the Public Prosecution Service and for a fresh inquest into the exact circumstances of the fatal shooting of their sister.
