Congratulations to our trainee solicitor Cathal Mullan on being awarded the prize for the 10th best oralist at the international finals of the 29th Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition.
Cathal, as part of the Institute of Professional Legal Studies team alongside Rebecca Deans and Seán Scally, successfully negotiated the regional rounds hosted in Dublin to reach the international finals in Florida. Organised by the Institute for Biodiversity Law and Policy of Stetson University, the Stetson Moot Court Competition focuses on important global environmental challenges and has been bringing together law students from universities all over the globe since 1996. The focus of this year’s competition, which took place from 9 to 12 April 2025, was the interaction between the protection of endangered species, the rights of indigenous peoples, and international trade law.
Reflecting on the competition, Cathal said:
“We are all grateful to the IPLS and our firms for facilitating the intense work it took to reach the international finals. We owe particular thanks to the Director of the IPLS, Professor Barbara Jemphrey, and our coach, Thomas Stewart BL, in sharing their insights and expertise in the skills of advocacy and persuasion that brought us this far. Our knowledge of this area of law will be a great addition to our skillset as solicitors as we near the completion of our legal education”.
