22nd January 2015; On the 15th of January the Sunday World newspaper agreed to pay out compensation following the instigation of civil proceedings for defamation against Mr Stephen Paul. Nichola Harte of Harte Coyle Collins, Solicitors & Solicitor Advocates, sued on behalf of Mr Paul for defamatory allegations made about him in an article publicshed on the 7th July 2013. The Sunday World accepted that the allegatons made regarding Mr Paul were untrure and apologised for the distress caused to him agreeing to compensate him by way of damages and costs.
On the 18th January 2015 the Sunday World printed the following apology;
“In the Sunday World edition of July 7 2013 an article was published in which defamatory allegaions were made about Stephen Paul. The Defendant [Sunday World] accepts that the allegations were untrue, and apologies to Mr Paul for the distress caused to him. By way of compensation the Defendant [Sunday World] has agreed to pay him damages and his costs.”
