The family of Thomas Burns, shot dead by the British army on the 13th July 1972 at Glenpark Street, Belfast, are seeking the release of a report completed by the HET into the death currently held by the PSNI.
The death of Thomas Burns was investigated by the HET before it was suspended in 2013. The completed HET Report has never been released to the family. The HET Report is now in the hands of the PSNI Legacy Investigations Branch. An application to the PSNI to release the report was made on behalf of the family in July 2015. The Report was requested by the family in order to assist in an application to the Attorney General for a fresh inquest into their father’s death.
The request for release of the HET Report was refused by the PSNI in August 2015. The family have now instructed Harte Coyle Collins to challenge the refusal to release the report to the family.
