Harte Coyle Collins, Solicitors & Advocates were successful in an Appeal against sentence on 16th May 2025 before the Court of Appeal. Our client had received a 7 year with 3 Extended for an offence of GBH with intent. The Panel of 3 Appeal Judges found that the disparity between credit awarded to the co accused and our client (the Applicant) was unfair therefore reduced our client’s sentence by 1 year.
Our client was represented before the Court of Appeal by our Chris McCann solicitor with senior counsel Eilis MacDermott K.C. and junior counsel James Toal B.L.
Solicitor Chris McCann said today;
“The co-Defendant in this case was treated more favorably than our client when sentenced and it was important to appeal to ensure a court made that finding and reduced our client’s sentence accordingly. This case demonstrates that it is important for defendants to exhaust all legal avenues on occasions to ensure a just result. In this case our client was refused Leave to appeal by the Single Judge but on our advice proceeded to a full hearing before a panel of 3 Appeal Court Judges. His decision to continue was vindicated by his successful appeal and the significant reduction in his sentence”
