The legacy inquest into the fatal shooting of Master Patrick Crawford in the grounds of the RVH resumes next Monday 11th March 2024 at Armagh Courthouse. The inquest will hear evidence for up to 2 weeks. Patrick Crawford was killed by one gunshot at the age of 15. The next of kin believe that Patrick was shot by a member of the British army stationed in the Royal Victoria Hospital at the time.
The Coroner Judge Gilpin will hear evidence from civilian and military witnesses and experts in pathology and ballistics over the next 2 weeks. The inquest opened in 2023 and will now resume.
Patrick was one of 10 children. His mother, Martha Crawford was shot dead 3 years earlier on 30th March 1972 during crossfire between the British army and the IRA in the Andersontown area of Belfast.
Patrick’s father and 10 siblings, 2 of whom passed away last year, campaigned for almost 50 years for a fresh inquest to secure judicial scrutiny of the circumstances of Patrick’s death. They look forward to the inquest re-commencing next week.
The family are represented by Aidan Sands K.C, Patrick Taggart BL and Patricia Coyle solicitor of Harte Coyle Collins, Solicitors & Advocates.
