Partner in charge of our Sports & Entertainment Law Department, Patricia Coyle, obtained a multi-jurisdiction masters level post graduate qualification with the University of Ulster in 2015. This qualification included intensive training with in house practitioners from the BBC, Channel 4 and US media corporations HBO and Fox. Patricia is currently developing this niche area of law for the firm and provides advice on media content review, contract advice at all stages (including script treatment and pre/post production and all ancillary contracts), copyright, defamation, and branding/image rights. The firm launched the Entertainment Law Department in 2022 and provides advice while meeting the needs of those within entertainment industry.
The founders of the firm are supporters of the arts and are particularly interested in assisting start up productions and redressing the balance of power between production companies and individual artists, authors and musicians.
Patricia has provided advice to the following artists and musicians (published with their consent);
- Irish rap trio Kneecap on their recent co-created film premiered in 2024;
- Family of the late author Maureen McKeown whose book “The Extraordinary Case of Sister Ligouri” was optioned for production as an international television series in 2024;
- the music artist Jonny Was Here (Jonny O Hanlon) who was signed to Sony Records in 2023;
- the Director and Producer Stephen Presley who is completing the feature film “The Haunting of Helen’s Bridge” and other film and documentary projects;
- the solo author/director/producer and performer Carol Murphy (“The Body & The Blood”)
- the young rising music star Karlie McBride.
