Harte Coyle Collins, Solicitors & Advocates are delighted to add Maicín, a 5 piece young band with a unique sound to their entertainment law client list. Hailing from the rebel city of Cork, Ireland, Maicín is shaking up the music scene with a sound that blends the grit of The Stranglers, the indie swagger of Pavement, and the pop sensibilities of Declan McKenna.
Maicín’s sound is a tension between chaos and calm—a collision of cutting cynicism and wide-eyed sincerity. It’s a band equally at home with jagged guitars and delicate keys, where raw basslines rub shoulders with shimmering Omnichord and lap steel. The result is a genre they’ve coined “pastoral post-punk”: music that filters the urgency of new wave through a folk lens—angular, lyrical, and unexpectedly warm. It’s punk with dirt under its nails and poetry in its back pocket. Imagine the lovechild of Billy Bragg and Jarvis Cocker… now get your head out of the gutter and picture Maicín.
The band has been gradually writing and recording with acclaimed producer Oli Deakin (CMAT, Elanor Moss, Swimming Bell), shaping a distinctive sonic identity. To date, they’ve released three singles—‘Find Somebody New’, ‘One Channel Television’, and most notably ‘Che Guevara’, which has amassed over 10,000 streams on Spotify. Their recordings also feature contributions from Spencer Tweedy (Tweedy) and Concetta Abbate (Mutual Benefit). Truthfully, they just added that line to name-drop Spencer Tweedy… they think it’s cool that we kind of know him.
Maicín’s live shows are visceral yet tender, evoking the chaotic charm of golden-era CBGBs while delivering sharp emotional resonance. Their eclectic, witty originals take audiences on a ride through time (from 1980s London to present-day Ireland) and mood (from wry grins to the occasional tear).
They’ve brought this dynamic energy to stages across Ireland, performing at Cyprus Avenue, Coughlan’s, The Roundy, and Fred Zeppelins in Cork; Crowbar Terrace in Dublin; and the Spilt Milk Festival in Sligo. In 2025, Maicín earned national recognition by winning both the UCC Battle of the Bands and the Intervarsity Battle of the Bands, solidifying their place as one of Ireland’s most compelling new acts.
The band features Matt Hurley (songwriter, vocals), Aidan Kelleher (drums), Darragh McNamara (bass), Méabh Fitzgerald (keys), and Ryan Daly (lead guitar). What began as a creative escape for Matt and Aidan—two young architects struggling with city life in London—evolved into a fully formed band upon their return to Ireland. With the addition of childhood friends, cousins, and past collaborators, Maicín came together organically—but with purpose.
Hurley’s songwriting is inspired by the beauty and absurdity of everyday life—both irreverent and deeply personal, touching on everything from helpless romanticism to the poetic shtick of a perfect pint of Guinness.
This band is the closest thing to meaning they’ve found in their short lives. So they take it very seriously… sometimes.
