Sunday World Apologise and Pay Compensation & Costs for Defamation for Client

On the 15th of January the Sunday World newspaper agreed to pay out compensation following the instigation of civil proceedings for defamation against Mr Stephen Paul. Nichola Harte of Harte Coyle Collins, Solicitors & Solicitor Advocates, sued on behalf of Mr Paul for defamatory allegations made about him in an article publicshed on the 7th July 2013. The Sunday World accepted that the allegatons made regarding Mr Paul were untrure and apologised for the distress caused to him agreeing to compensate him by way of damages and costs.

Court of Appeal Quashes Motorcycle Forfeiture Order & Directs PSNI to Explore all Interests before Destroying Vehicles

The Court of Criminal Appeal today quashed a Forfeiture Order imposed by Antrim Crown Court in respect of a BMW motorcycle when sentencing Gabriel Mackle for explosives and ammunition charges in 2014. On the 8th September 2014 the Crown Court imposed an order forfeiting a BMW motorcycle which the prosecution claimed had been used by Mr Mackle to transport a quantity of .22 ammunition and a bottle containing mercury. Mr Mackle pleaded guilty to the offences and received an 8 year sentence in June 2014. In September 2014 the Crown Court Judge imposed the order on the BMW motorcycle.
